Ellen Page is set to follow the footsteps of Joan Fontaine, Susannah York and Charlotte Gainsborg when she takes the role of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Alison Owen is working with BBC Films to develop the new adaptation of the classic 19th century romance between a mousy governess and her dour master who hides a tragic secret. It would be Page's first period role. The screenplay is by Moira Buffini, but no director is as yet attached.
